Sony Unveils Powerful VAIO Notebook in Bold New Colours
TORONTO, ON – Personal computing has moved into the style-sphere with Sony's new line of lightweight notebooks featuring chic design and eye-popping colours. Weighing just 5.5 pounds, the new CR Series VAIO® provides a portable solution without compromising power and efficiency. Equipped with a high-speed processor and superior screen resolution, the CR VAIO offers consumers an opportunity to match their technical needs with their personal style.
Sporting a luxurious, glossy finish and framed with a silver, luminous trim, the CR VAIO is available in five fashion-forward colours: sangria, cosmopolitan, dove, indigo and black (matte finish). This VAIO is complete with personalized extras including a funky VAIO branded wallpaper and optional colour-coordinated mouse.
"Similar to choosing the right car to drive, notebooks today are an extension of one's personality," said Puneet Jain, director, IT marketing, for Sony Canada. "Consumers expect their PC to reflect their individuality and creativity – all while handling spreadsheets and other multi-tasking computer functions. The CR VAIO takes personal style beyond the boundaries of clothing and accessories, adding a technology element into the mix."
Get Moving. Get Noticed. Get Personal. The CR VAIO is backed by the Intel® Centrino® Duo processor that supplies plenty of power for high-speed performance and the notebook's energy-efficient design is ideal for computing on-the-go. When surfing the web, the unit's built-in wireless capabilities make it faster and easier to connect to wireless networks with greater performance, range and reliability than ever before. This model is equipped with a uniquely configured raised keyboard that is comfortable and convenient to use.
A Portable Entertainment Paradise Equipped with a 14.1-inch widescreen display, Sony's XBRITE LCD technology and a built-in digital camera and microphone for live video chats – the CR VAIO is an easy way to take entertainment on the road. The "instant mode" button just above the keyboard offers immediate access to movies, music and photos – all without booting-up the operating system.
Importing and editing digital content is effortless using Memory Stick Pro Duo, Memory Stick Pro, SD card or Express Card media slots, an i.LINK port or USB port. Creating, managing and sharing photos and home movies has also been made easier with a suite of multimedia tools including Click to DVD® software for crating custom DVDs.
The CR series is loaded with LocationFree® software for "place-shift" live TV – Canadians can access personal video recorders or DVD players and view that content directly on this notebook via the Internet. A base station and broadband connectivity are required, which are sold separately. The notebook comes pre-installed with Windows Vista™ Home Premium operating system.
A Canadian Idol The Canadian launch of the CR VAIO series will be supported with a marketing campaign featuring rising Canadian music star, Eva Avila. A proud Canadian, Eva swept the 2006 Canadian Idol contest with an unprecedented number of votes and is climbing the charts with her hit single, Fallin' For You. A performer that wears her emotions on her sleeve, Eva is lending her charisma, exceptional talent and sophisticated style to the VAIO brand.
"We approached Eva for this campaign because her vibrant personality and unique style is a complement to the new CR series," says Tony Smith, vice president, marketing communications, Sony Canada. "Eva is a role model for young Canadians and with our new CR VAIOs appealing to a younger, fashion-forward consumer, she was the perfect fit to support the brand."
In the "Viva VAIO" advertising campaign, Eva shows off her adaptability with a different notebook PC to match her changing roles. Whether glammed up with a cosmopolitan notebook or casual and colourful with the sangria style, Eva selects the right VAIO to fit her unique style. Eva can bee seen in the "Viva VAIO" ads on large billboards, transit shelters, platform ads and backlit posters in busy commuter and clubbing areas. The campaign is also featured nationally in Sony store windows, brochures and magazine advertising.
