Notice for Sony BRAVIA LCD HDTV

Models: KDL-40V3000, KDL-40VL130, KDL-40W3000, KDL-40WL135, KDL-40XBR4 and KDL-40XBR5

Dear Valued Customer,

It has come to our attention through reports in Japan that in rare cases a particular component incorporated in certain models
of 40" BRAVIA LCD HDTV [Model Nos. KDL-40V3000, KDL-40VL130, KDL-40W3000, KDL-40WL135, KDL-40XBR4 and
KDL-40XBR5] was damaged and as a result, may overheat and at times ignite inside of the television. This could possibly
result in a hole in a part of the cabinet ceiling. We have no reports of any resulting damages to other property or bodily
injuries.

We know our customers choose Sony based in large part to the trust associated with our brand and the products and
services we so strongly stand behind. We will not take your trust for granted and are committed to addressing this issue
proactively.

Beginning immediately, Sony offers all customers of the affected models [Model Nos. KDL-40V3000, KDL-40VL130, KDL-
40W3000, KDL-40WL135, KDL-40XBR4 and KDL-40XBR5] a free evaluation of the covered product. If you have any
covered product unit, please, click here to schedule an appointment for a service technician to perform an in-home
evaluation.

When a request is made, a Sony authorized service representative will promptly visit to evaluate your television and repair it
at no charge if an affected component is found.

IMPORTANT: In the meantime, if you have a covered television and if you notice any abnormality in your TV unit and its
performance (e.g.; unusual noise, unusual smell, or smoking), please immediately turn the unit off, unplug the cord, cease
using the TV, and contact us. We have confirmed that the symptoms do not occur when power is off.

You can confirm the model number of your TV by looking at the label on the rear of the television. Additionally, the model
number can be found on your warranty card.

Q1: What condition is affecting certain models of Bravia LCD HD Televisions?

A2: If a customer has any of the televisions listed above and they notice any abnormality with their TV unit, (e.g.;
unusual noise, unusual smell, or smoking), the customer should immediately turn the unit off, unplug the
cord and cease using the TV until a service technician can evaluate the TV. Sony has confirmed that the
symptoms do not occur when power is off.

Q3: Approximately how many models are affected and have there been any reported instances of this
issue within Canada?
A3: Approximately 54,000 of these TVs have been sold in Canada and to date there has not been any reported
instance of this issue within Canada.

Q4: What's causing the condition to occur?
A4: In rare cases a particular component incorporated in these televisions was damaged during manufacturing
and as a result, may overheat and at times ignite inside of the television.

Q5: What is Sony doing to correct the condition?
A5: Sony is committed to addressing this issue proactively and is offering all customers of the models listed
above a free evaluation, and if necessary, a free repair. The evaluation will be performed at the customer's
home by a Sony authorized technician and should take approximately 10 minutes.

Q6: Is there a cost for this evaluation and repair?
A6: Sony is providing the evaluation and, if necessary, the repair at no cost.

Q7: How can I request the evaluation and repair?

Q8: How long will it take to determine if my television is affected?
A8: The evaluation will be performed at the customer's home by a Sony authorized technician and should take
approximately 10 minutes.

Q9: Can I continue using my television until the evaluation is performed?
A9: Yes, but if you hear unusual sounds coming from inside the television or if the television has an unusual
smell or if there is smoking, immediately turn the unit off, unplug the cord and cease using the TV until a
service technician can evaluate the TV. Sony has confirmed that the symptoms do not occur when power is
off.

Q10: I don't want this TV anymore. Will Sony buy it back or provide me with a new television?
A10: We are offering all customers of the models listed above a free evaluation, and if necessary, a free repair.

Q11: I heard about a possible defect in my TV. How do I find out if I have a set that requires service for
this issue?
A11: 40" BRAVIA LCD HDTV Model Nos. KDL-40V3000, KDL-40VL130, KDL-40W3000, KDL-40WL135, KDL-
40XBR4, and KDL-40XBR5 may be affected by this issue. If you have one of these models, you should
schedule an appointment for a Sony authorized service technician to perform a free in-home evaluation. If
